Survey Overview
David Binder Research conducted 1000 telephone and online interviews from May 18th to 21st, 2024 for the American Beverage Association. Respondents were registered voters in New York who are likely to vote in the November 2024 election. The margin of sampling error is ± 3.1% at the 95% confidence level.
Top Line Findings:
The survey shows that a majority of likely November voters in New York State oppose doubling the out-of-pocket container deposit from 5 cents to 10 cents and expanding the deposit to include other beverages. While 65% of voters oppose this deposit increase, only 29% of voters support it. Additionally, more than two-thirds of New York State voters oppose in increasing the handling fee of 3.5 cents per container to 6.5 cents per container. While 68% of voters oppose increasing the handling fee, only 17% of voters support it.
